Paper Romance

Music is this month's theme at Alter it Monthly and as I can't seem to stop listening to Groove Armada's Black Light album I felt inspired to make this ......... It features lyrics from Paper Romance. Continuing with the music theme I made the large flower from some old musical score and the background paper is from the Anthem range by Sassafras.

As I used something old and something new it qualifies too for the new monthly challenge at the Artistic Stamper Creative Team Blog A new wooden frame and the old musical score.

I already have another idea buzzing around my head featuring Gorillaz 'Rhinestone Eyes' - you know I get carried away, remember the song title cards?

Birds of a Feather

This month at Alter It Monthly the theme is Birds of a Feather. I have a really sweet bird stamp that I thought would be perfect - but how to use it?

I had loads (and I mean loads!) of offcuts from a framers. The particular one I chose to use is the middle of a photo mount so I suppose it is 'altered'. They are perfect for mixed media type work and being quite sturdy can take quite a lot of paint, pasting etc. I wanted a vintage feel to my finished hanging decoration so I covered the base in a book page and painted with cream acrylic. Next I stamped a few flowers in sepia and aged some lace ribbon. I built up my decoration with some die cut flowers from fabric and book pages and of course added my stamped bird image.

I liked doing it so much that I made a butterfly themed one for a friend but I'll share that later in the week.

soup never looked so good

Tin is the theme this month at Alter It Monthly be it an altered tin or using tin or metal on your project. Luckily I had just used a tin so after a bit of ferreting around my recycling I managed to retrieve it to alter. I first coloured the edges of the tin using watermelon alchohol ink and covered the whole thing in a book page inked with worn lipstick distress ink. I have fallen in love with the tattered floral alterations die so made lots of flowers die cut from lots of bright papers, the larger ones have a brad and large black sequin for their centres. Another favourite technique at the moment is embossing good old kitchen tin foil using the cuttlebug. I cut out my initial in cardstock and covered in foil and then run through the bug using the roses embossing folder, therefore adding another tin element to my project. Around the bottom edge I added a scrap of black lace.
You may remember my new art doll stamp, well I have now put her together to adorn my new tin. I added a wooden coffee stirrer to the reverse and that sits inside the tin allowing her to perch on the edge.

An altered matchbox

It was great to find a new challenge blog this week. Alter It Monthly will be posting monthly challenges with a new challenge each month. To take part all you need to do is post a link to your project when you make a comment.

This months challenge is an altered matchbox. I used my new butterfly stamp from Stamps Away and the butterfly quote is from the Artistic Stamper. I wanted the butterflies inside the matchbox to look like specimens and I coloured them with promarkers and added a bit of stickles. The quote is inked and painted with distress rock candy crackle paint. This is the first matchox I've altered I think I may do some more.........
